AUGUSTA, Maine ? A former Maine legislator who was barred from the State House after being charged with pulling a loaded gun on a stranger in a parking lot has been indicted.
A Kennebec County Superior Court jury indicted Frederick Wintle on Friday on charges of criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon, reckless conduct and carrying a concealed weapon. Wintle resigned on Sept. 13.
His attorney has said Wintle's actions were the result of a mental breakdown. Leonard Sharon says Wintle remains in treatment.
Sharon says he wanted to resolve the case in a way that would allow Wintle to avoid a felony conviction; he said he negotiated with District Attorney Evert Fowle.
Fowle tells the Kennebec Journal (http://bit.ly/qpc1W9) an earlier attempt had been made to resolve the matter, but it wasn't successful.
