Parenting Advice - Team Building | Something Undone

Each week I like to share some brief parenting advice that I've learned over the years, today I want to talk a little bit about team building.

If there were a single secret to raising children, I'd say that it's the same secret to raising a powerful project team.

In my profession I'm a manager, I went to school for far too many years studying the power of business management and systems management, and these lessons are about how to manage people? it turns out that your children ARE people and can be managed in similar ways.

Team building:

When you're new to a business team immediately you need to find a way to get to know the people you are working with, you have to look for ways to analyze their strong points, weak points, and how well they work with others. ?

Team building is any activity that emphasizes the need to work together as a team; As you read these, imagine applying them to your family instead of a bunch of co-workers? Team Building:

  • builds team relationship,
  • breaks down interpersonal barriers (so you can talk openly and more easily)
  • builds up the team member,
  • builds trust,
  • establishes rapport,
  • enhances group problem solving,
  • develops the organizational culture
  • enforces/enhances leadership.?

Usually this kind of stuff works like magic, everyone quickly gets on the same page and turns toward the same goal? so it makes sense that using it to bring the family together works.?

It's my secret to awesome parenting, we do stuff together a lot, we're constantly building our team; I'd love your thoughts on team building activities, here's a quick list of team building events I've done in the past in the corporate world and with the family:

  • Miniature golf
  • Obstacle course
  • Hike
  • Camping
  • Board games
  • Video Games (Together towards a common goal)
  • Paint Ball
  • Scavenger Hunt
  • Travel
  • Swimming
  • Group Cooking
  • Rock Climbing
  • Party Games
