A Forever Recovery: Prescription drug abuse on college campuses

?

A recent report says more than one-fifth of college students use illicit drugs. The team at A Forever Recovery warns that taking drugs for recreational use or for help studying can quickly lead to dependency.

College campuses across America have struggled with drug problems for years. Recently, the drugs have worked their way into classrooms and libraries as well. Prescription drug abuse can occur whether someone has a prescription for the drug or not ? and it doesn?t appear to be stopping.

?

More than one-fifth of college students use illicit drugs, according to 2010 survey by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration. Additionally, six percent of respondents aged 18 to 25 said they take prescription drugs for non-medical purposes. A statistic from DrugFreeWorld.org suggests that 15 million people in the United States abuse prescription medicine. That number is bigger than those who use hallucinogens, cocaine, heroin and inhalants combined.
While seen by those who have attended as the best times of their lives, college students are always under some sort of pressure, especially when tests are scheduled and papers are due. More and more students seem to be turning to Adderall and Ritalin for an extra push while studying. Still others are taking Xanax, Ambien, Oxyconton and Vicodin as party aids.

?

One college student told High Brow Magazine that whether he took drugs depended on how he felt and that it was easy to get a hold of most prescription medicines. He said the ADD and ADHD medicines like Adderall and Ritalin were readily available on campus. He and his friends would buy some to either help them stay awake while studying or help them stay awake while drinking.

The experts at A Forever Recovery specialize in helping people break their drug and alcohol addictions. Many students who take these drugs to help study may eventually get hooked on them. The team at A Forever Recovery believes the problem really occurs when the student refuses to admit the issue and instead claims the pills help them.

?

Students may think taking a pill here or there that they perceive as helping them is OK, but it is a lot more dangerous than they think. Abusing prescription stimulants can lead to a multitude of symptoms involving the heart and lungs and could ultimately lead to death.

?

A Forever Recovery is an open-ended alcohol and drug rehab program. Its treatment facility hosts multiple types of counselors that help clients find the best way to recover.
