Kenya magazine robbed; corruption files stolen (AP)

NAIROBI, Kenya ? The Committee to Protect Journalists says thieves broke into the offices of a Kenyan investigative magazine and stole computers containing information about government corruption.

The press release received Saturday says thieves cut through a metal fence early Friday, used a ladder to break into Nairobi Law Monthly's offices, then turned the surveillance cameras upward. They also attacked two security guards with machetes, leaving them with injuries that required hospitalization.

They stole two computers and two external hard drives with information on alleged corruption in President Mwai Kibaki's administration.

Publisher Ahmednasir Abdullahi told CPJ he suspects government involvement.

Government spokesman Alfred Mutua said Saturday: "The government does not commit crimes."
