The activist group Anonymous has hacked the Greek Ministry of Finance and released documents as the government heads toward its vote on further cuts to ensure another loan.
The economy in Europe is in no great state and Greece in particular has seen painful moves to try and drag the country out of crisis. Just today the Telegraph reported that Greece?s debt to GDP will hit 189.1pc and the economy is expected to contract by 4.5pc next year. The BBC recently pointed out that the country?s level of unemployment hit 25% in July with over 1,000 jobs lost every day over the past year.
It?s no wonder people are tired and angry with the situation and that parts of organisations like Anonymous are taking action to find information.
In it?s signature style of writing Anonymous posted the hacked files on pastebin with the following message.
Greetings citizens of the world
Greetings citizens of Greece
We are anonymous. The Greek government is prepared to testify to a vote in the Greek Parliament the new package of economic austerity measures of 13.5 billion euros which are expected to prolong the recession in Greece.
Under the austerity measures, pensioners have seen a 60 percent fall in their pensions ? meaning their life savings are now less than half what they expected.
Meanwhile, the government is considering more cuts, raising the retirement age and putting a cap on free healthcare provision of just ?1,500 per person per year.
Greece used to have one of the lowest suicide rates in the EU but since 2010, the number of people taking their own lives has increased by 40 percent, with a large proportion from the older generation.
Sixty-eight percent of Greece?s population living below the at-risk-of poverty rate (ie, having an income below 60 percent of the national median) were spending over 40 percent of their income on rent or mortgage payments.
More than 439,000 underage children are living below poverty level in Greece due to the ongoing crisis, according to a UNICEF report released on Oct. 16 on the occasion of the World Feed Day 2012 and the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty.
The popularity of far right parties, including the neo-Nazi Golden Dawn, has risen in tandem.
Your goverment failed you.
Whether or not people agree with the actions of Anonymous in collecting their information. The move to hack a ministry is an extreme one, possibly borne out of the fact that Greece has been muzzling its media.
Some may argue that this is a move to calm an already hectic situation, but more often than not, an informed public is able to make its own mind up rather than rallying in ignorance and anger.
Today reports have shown that another journalist was arrested in relation to the Anonymous hack.
TV reporter Spiros Karatzaferis said that he had information from Anonymous about the Greek deficit that he would present on his show on October 31. However, he was arrested apparently not for possessing the information but for an unrelated case.
According to the Greek Reporter website, Karatzaferis said he had been detained on an old warrant for a case in which he had accused judges of organising outside of the government.
Index on Censorship has published an excellent and in-depth report on the lack of freedom of the press in Greece at the moment. Multiple arrests, accusations of torture and the cancellation of TV shows covering these issues do not make for happy reading.
Costas Vaxevanis, editor of the ?Hot Doc? magazine, was arrested just this weekend after publishing the ?Lagarde List?, a document that French Authorities handed over to Athens so that account holders could be investigated for tax evasion.
Writing in the Guardian this week, Vaxenvanis said ?Greece gave birth to democracy. Now it has been cast out by a powerful elite.?
That said, if Anonymous takes further action following its hack, it could mean the elite will have to look out for a more powerful distributed network.

ScienceDaily (Oct. 25, 2012) ? Theoretical physicists like to play with very unconventional toys. Manoel Manghi from Toulouse University in France and his colleagues have adopted a seemingly playful approach to examining what happens to a double stranded molecule of DNA when it is stretched to the breaking point, in a study about to be published in EPJ E.
Instead of using optical tweezers to stretch DNA as previously done in experimental settings, the authors focused on using a theoretical model to account for the structural deformations of DNA and determine how its mechanical characteristics could explain certain biological processes.
Over fifteen years ago, scientists discovered that DNA undergoes two structural transitions when pulled from both ends. The problem is that in experimental conditions these two transitions can overlap and can therefore be difficult to observe. Instead, Manghi and colleagues relied on a standard mathematical tool referred to as a 'coupled discrete wormlike chain-Ising model' to simulate DNA stretching and match experimental observations.
Thanks to their theoretical approach, the authors confirmed that after overcoming initial resistance to stretching, at a force of around 65 piconewtons (pN) in strength, the DNA stretches to almost twice its original length while also becoming less rigid. They also confirmed the other known structural transition occurring at around 135 pN. Although the critical forces of both transitions depend on the DNA sequence, they found it is the second one that most depends on it.
Beyond 135pN, DNA strands start peeling apart into single stranded DNAs that are similar to those obtained when DNA is heated up and undergoes thermal denaturation. This model thus bridges the gap between force-induced mechanical stretching and thermal denaturation and could potentially help understand how DNA performs its biological functions such as interaction with proteins and how it is packaged, say, in viruses.

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - Prince Fielder hasn't provided the meaty production the Detroit Tigers expect.
"Obviously they're not going to throw us center cuts all day," the burly slugger said.
His first two World Series games after signing a $214 million contract have been forgettable. No RBIs. One hit, a single at that.
And he was thrown out at the plate in the second inning Thursday night when he tried to score from first base on a double, a key play in the Tigers' 2-0 loss to San Francisco that sent Detroit home with a 2-0 World Series deficit.
"Once again when we hit the ball hard they made good plays," Fielder said. "That combination is pretty deadly."
Fielder is fizzling, hitting just .205 for the Tigers this postseason with one home run and three RBIs in 11 games. Those meager numbers have dropped him to .198 (19 for 96) in his postseason career. Quite a contrast to his first regular season in Motown, when he batted .313 with 30 homers and 108 RBIs.
Miguel Cabrera, batting in the No. 3 hole ahead of Fielder, was 1 for 5 with one RBI during the two games in San Francisco.
Detroit had its chances. After Omar Infante reached on an infield single leading off the fourth, Cabrera lined to Pablo Sandoval, who made a leaping, backhand catch at third base, and Fielder flied to Gregor Blanco on the left-field warning track.
"We got two hits tonight. I'm certainly not going to sit up here and rip my offense because last night I thought we had some pretty good swings," Tigers manager Jim Leyland said. "Cabrera hit a bullet tonight. We had the unfortunate play at the plate early, so no, I think our offense is fine."
Fielder and the Tigers had a chance to go ahead early. Fielder was hit on the right shoulder by Madison Bumgarner's pitch in the second, and Delmon Young followed with a double down the left-field line.
After the ball ricocheted off the wall in foul territory and back into left field, third base coach Gene Lamont signaled for Fielder to keep running. Blanco threw to second baseman Marco Scutaro, standing about 15 feet behind third base, and Scutaro threw home. Giants catcher Buster Posey tagged Fielder on the rear end.
"Any time those kind of freak plays happen that don't go your way, it takes away a little momentum," Fielder said. "But you've got to be aggressive. They made a perfect play."
Fielder turned around, crouched, stood up and pointed at the plate, miffed by umpire Dan Iassogna's call. Fielder didn't feel Posey's tag but said after the game he probably was wrong.
"I think Gene just got a little overaggressive," Leyland said. "I thought with my naked eye, I thought he was out, but when Prince reacted, I thought, well, maybe he might have missed him. But the umpire made a great call. He made an absolute terrific call in a big situation."
Would Fielder have done anything differently if he had to do it again?
"Yeah, I wish I did a flip," he said playfully.
Even when he dived for Hunter Pence's foul ball, he couldn't quite come up with it and grimaced after landing hard on his wrist.
It was that type of trip.
Now the Tigers go home to Comerica Park, where they were 50-31 during the regular season. They don't have much time for a turnaround if they hope to bring Detroit its first World Series title since 1984.
"We can't try to win three in one day," Fielder said. "Or two for that matter."

So, after Pablo Sandoval in Game, we have Gregor Blanco in Game 2 ? and the breaks have the Giants in an almost-always-win situation in the World Series.
Madison Bumgarner shut down the Detroit Tigers for seven innings, then the Giants took advantage of a bunt that stayed fair to eke out the go-ahead run in a 2-0 win Thursday night for a 2-0 edge in the World Series.

I?ve been thinking a lot about the value of relationships and the high cost of maintaining those relationships.
All of our wonderful new social tools have distorted the meaning of words like relationship, friend, and network. In some way our tools have devalued the ideas behind these words. Once you cross Dunbar?s number, the people you are connected to on the social web are something less than relationships, something less than friends, or something less than your real network. These ?relationships? may represent a community, but that doesn?t mean you necessarily have a relationship to each of the individuals in that community.
The truth is that your real relationships are limited because they come with a very high price.
If you are going to have meaningful, valuable, and value-creating relationships, you have to make an investment of time. Absence doesn?t make the heart grow fonder; it makes the heart go wander. This is one of the main constraints on the number of real relationships you can manage.
Think about the most important people in your personal life (it?s probably only five or so). What investment of time do you need to make in those relationships for them to be the meaningful relationships you really want?
Think about your most important business relationships (this might be ten to fifteen people, maybe more for some people). Are you investing the time in those relationships to make them meaningful, valuable, and value creating?
Because your time is finite, you have to make decisions about where you invest that time?and more importantly, who with.
The investment of time is critical to relationships. But the frequency of your communication matters too. The longer between visits, the less valuable the relationship becomes. The investment of frequency is part of what creates the relationship.
Frequency is difficult, too. There isn?t enough time to do everything we would want to do were time unlimited. This means we often have longer gaps between the face-to-face meetings, the lunches or dinners, or phone calls.
Care and feeding of relationships requires frequent communication. The value of the relationship is improved by frequent communication and reduced by long absences.
How frequently do you invest your time with the people that matter most in your life? How frequently do you have meaningful communication with the people who make up your most important business relationships?
There isn?t any substitute for caring. This is the root of trust, and the root of all great relationships. You can?t care about everyone and everything. You have to make choices.
The investment of time is a demonstration of caring. So is the frequency in which you initiate communication. But caring is more about creating value for the other person. It?s about finding a way to help them. Sometimes being valuable can be something as simple (and difficult) as just listening.
In our business relationships, caring is the continuous, proactive search to find new ways to create value for your business relationships. Caring is finding some way to help create better business results.
The sum total of your happiness is measured by the value of your relationships. You have a limited amount of time and energy to devote to those relationships. Make the investment of time, frequency, and caring to make your most important relationships what they should be.
How many real friends do you have?
How many real, meaningful, valuable business relationships do you have?
How much time do you have to invest in relationships? How do you make the choices of where to invest that time?
How frequently do you have meaningful interactions with your most important business relationships?
What limits your ability to care? How do you make that investment?

NEW YORK (AP) ? Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer celebrated the imminent release of the company's Windows operating system after two years of work.
Windows 8 is the most dramatic overhaul of the personal computer market's dominant operating system in 17 years.
Microsoft Corp. redesigned it so it will run on increasingly popular tablet computers, as well as PCs. Another version of Windows 8 is being released for smartphones next week.
PCs and tablets running on Windows 8 go on sale Friday. While appearing at an event in New York, Ballmer hailed Windows 8 PCs as the best machines ever made.
More than 1,000 PCs have been certified to run Windows 8. In a departure from its usual software-focused strategy, Microsoft is selling a tablet called Surface that runs on Windows 8.
"We kicked off a new era for Microsoft and a new era for our customers," Ballmer said.
Windows 8 represents a big risk for Microsoft because Windows 8 looks and operates so much differently than previous versions.
The redesign discards the familiar "start" button and menu that Windows has had since 1995 when users are operating in a desktop mode, a change that critics believe will almost certainly provoke howls of protest. But many reviewers applaud Microsoft for overhauling Windows so it greets users with a mosaic of tiles displaying applications instead of relying on the desktop icons that served as the welcome mat for years.
The new look comes with new controls. This marks the first time Microsoft has made touch-screen control the top priority, though the system can still be navigated with a keyboard and mouse in desktop mode.
The redesign could frustrate many long-time users who had grown accustomed to the old way of doing things and cause them to consider checking out computers made by Apple Inc., which already has been gaining market share in the past few years.
Microsoft's decision to sell a Windows 8 tablet also threatens to alienate the device makers who license Windows 8 for their desktop PCs, notebook computers and tablets.
It's a gamble that Microsoft felt it had to take because people are increasingly embracing smartphones and tablets such as Apple's hot-selling iPad to take care of their computing needs. The shift has contributed to decline in PC sales, hurting Microsoft and the makers of desktop and laptop machines, including Hewlett-Packard Co. and Dell Inc.
Microsoft shares dipped 4 cents to $27.87 in Thursday's early afternoon trading.

Fans of the 2008 action movie Wanted have been waiting patiently for word on a sequel since the film hit big at the domestic box office (grossing nearly $134.5 million), but now it sounds like Wanted 2 may finally on the horizon.
Talking to Hollywood.com about his new novel spy novel, The Right Hand (set for release in November), Wanted screenwriter Derek Haas revealed that he and his writing partner Michael Brandt are readying to deliver their second draft of the script. Arriving at this point nearly half a decade later was a bumpy ride Haas was happy to take.
"After the first movie came out, we were supposed to write the sequel," says Haas. "For various reasons, we didn't connect with what Universal wanted to do creatively. A little bit of what Timur [Bekmambetov, director] wanted to do. So we just sort of bowed out gracefully."
Universal hired multiple writers to tackle the Wanted 2?script after Haas and Brandt departed the sequel. But in 2011, the studio reapproach them for the job. "We got that call that you always love as a screenwriter. 'Can you guys please come back?' We loved the world. That experience was great. We said, 'Well here's what we want to do with the sequel.' And they said, 'Okay.'"
Haas says his time away from Wanted 2 has strengthened his interest in the project, and will actually serve the story. "After four years, from a creative standpoint, it's almost better, because we can pick up the story four years later," says Haas. "It's 'Where is Wesley four years after the events of the first movie?'" Rumors surrounding the plot of Wanted 2 have come and gone with the various attached screenwriters (including possible prequel ideas that could open the door for the return of Angelina Jolie), but Haas insists the goal is not to undo anything presented in the original film. "Angelina Jolie gets shot in the head and everyone's like, 'Oh, are you going to bring back Fox?' I said, 'Did you see the bullet go into her head?' And they say, 'Oh, she can take one of those milk baths!' We never wanted to do that movie."
What Haas and Brandt are working on sounds much more interesting: "The only thing I can tell you is that Wesley [James McAvoy] is now, four years later, recruiting a young woman who is in his situation in the first movie. She's got a sh**ty life. He's sort of in the Fox role. This new girl is brought into the world."
After penning a novel and cooking up a TV show that debuted this season (Chicago Fire), Haas says he's thrilled to be back in the comic book universe of Wanted 2, where his imagination can really run wild. "The world is a blast. Timur is awesome. You get to go nuts. As writers it's really freeing to bend physics and natural laws."
Derek Haas' The Right Hand arrives on Nov. 13. Look for the rest of the interview on Hollywood.com before then!

OTTAWA ? Ottawa is stepping in with new rules for the largely unregulated prepaid credit card market.
Finance Minister Jim Flaherty announced Wednesday that in the future, issuers of prepaid cards will not be able to impose expiry dates and must be up front about hidden fees and conditions.
The move is part of the government?s expanding code of conduct measures to govern credit and debit transactions, that had previously not applied to the relatively new prepaid market.
While still a small segment of the market, prepaid plastic has become an option for consumers without conventional credit or debit cards, young adults, and for parents who want to introduce their children to using credit while limiting the risk of theft and over-spending.
But the sector has also faced criticism for exorbitant hidden fees that reduced their face value and fooled customers. These can include monthly or annual fees, maintenance costs, as well as ATM charges.
The most notorious example occurred two years ago when Hollywood celebrity Kim Kardashian backed away from endorsing a prepaid card bearing her name after a public outcry over the card?s usage fees, including a close to $60 activation fee.
The card even grabbed the attention of the attorney general of Connecticut.
The new regulations in Canada would require an information box disclosing the fees displayed prominently on the exterior package and other documentation prior to issuance.
A government official said the measures are in response to concerns about some features of prepaid cards issued by large financial institutions, adding that in some products, ?terms, conditions, fees and limitations? were not always made clear.
The official said the government wants to make sure consumers know what they are agreeing to before making the purchase.

There's been no word from Combs or his camp about the incident or the extent to which he was injured.

Apple has updated the iPad and launched the new iPad mini, so we're updating our buyers guides to help you choose just exactly the right devices for you. Now, ever since the iPad 2 launched with a choice of black or white faceplates, one of the biggest decisions we've all had to make is which color to get. This year, that stays the same for the iPad, but for the iPad mini, which has an iPod touch 5-style colored backplate as well, it's an even bigger -- make that smaller -- choice.
There's a reason almost all TV sets are black. When you're watching video or playing a game, you want the TV set to blend away into the background so you can enjoy what you're doing without the distractions of a big, bright rim around it.
The same goes for iPad and iPad mini. Some people find having a white faceplate very distracting when they're watching videos or gaming, and others just don't like the contrast between the white border and the black screen when the device is off. (It's known as "panda" if you want to get all inside baseball about it.)
Others aren't bothered by a white border at all and really like the two-tone look of the iPhone when its off. This year, however, you also have something else to consider. Until apps update for widescreen, they'll be letter-boxed or pillar-boxed on the iPhone 5, which means black bars. Those will almost disappear on a black iPhone 5. On a white iPhone 5, not so much...
I've had both a Black & Slate and a White & Silver iPhone 4 and have never been distracted nor irked by either one. If White & Silver catches your eye a little too much, however, you might want to stick with Black & Slate.
Rumor has it Apple delayed the launch of the white iPhone 4 in order to improve the UV protection and prevent discoloration. That's just a rumor, however, and white iPads have shipped day and date with black iPads since they were introduced in March 2011. That also means white iPads have been on the market for over a year and a half now, and there haven't been any widespread accounts of discoloration. My own white iPad 2, bought in March 2011, still looks as crisp and clean as the day I unboxed it.
In 5 years time some more obvious aging issues may present themselves, but 5 years is an eternity in consumer electronics. If it concerns you, stick with black.
On the other hand, black shows fingerprints, dust, lint, and smudges more dramatically, so if those annoy you, white is a better choice.
Some people just love the look of a white device, whether it's an iPad, an iPhone, a BlackBerry, an Android phone, or whatever. They sometimes get shipped later or come in more limited quantities so there's an air of exclusivity about them.
That's not the case with the iPad 4 or iPad mini.
White tends to stand out more and can be more obvious with brightly colored cases. Is that something that appeals to you? Or do you want the content and the accessories to be the star? If you like the idea of a blank canvas, stick to black. If you want your iPad to pop all on its own, get white.
Like the watch or race car trend, the Black & Slate of the iPad mini is blacked out and the White & Silver appears brighter and flashier. Think Darth Vader vs. Storm Trooper. Both mix texture and sheen to great effect. Both look hot. Black might show scratches and scuffs more, but that could also be seen as aged to perfection.
Unless and until a significant flaw shows up in one or the other, you're fine with either.
At the end of the day, the only real answer is get the color you like better. Everything else is manufactured anxiety at this point. Just close your eyes, picture your iPad in your hand and carefully look at what color you're picturing.
Then buy that.

Investing in commercial real estate is a good idea, but you need to know the type of real estate you plan on purchasing beforehand. If you make the wrong decision, it could become a financial disaster. This advice, however, is your key to making good investment decisions and keeping the balance sheet on the right side of zero.
Educate yourself about the measurements of NOI: Net Operating Income. To be a success, you need to be able to stay on the positive number side.
Don?t underestimate the value of networking with other investors or with private lenders when trying to purchase commercial real estate. Make sure you have a big network because there?s a lot of property that goes unnoticed and is sold, you want to increase your chances of making deals by always being informed.
When you are comparing different properties, get tour site checklists. Whilst you can take the first proposal responses, make sure that you don?t go any further without first informing the property owners of your plans. Do not fear letting the owners know that you are interested in other properties. This may ensure that you get a much more viable deal.
Ensure you have the best real estate agent, ask if they are successful and judge their response. Ask the person what criteria is used to gauge the success of results. Look for online ratings or complaints. Do not partner up with a broker who is completely the opposite to you in beliefs and the way matters are addressed.
Doing so means that you can confirm that all terms match up with the rent roll, as well as the pro forma. If you concentrate on these points, you can find an issue with the property.
Get your commercial property inspected before you try to sell it. You should consult with them and see if anything needs to be repaired; if it does go ahead and fix that as soon as possible.
It is always best to be aware of how your asking price is in relation to the market price. There are many things that can impact your value greatly.
You might need to make improvements to your new space before you can use it. The improvements can just affect surface appearance like painting the walls or moving furniture around. Many times, changes include reconfiguring the floor plan by moving walls. You should pre-negotiate the cost of these alterations with the landlord, and try to get them to contribute towards at least part of them.
Search online for websites that provide information about real estate investments. These general interest websites can provide you with useful information whether you?re new to the world of real estate investment or have made a career out of investing. It?s not possible to be too knowledgeable, so keep researching new investing strategies.
In conclusion, it should be apparent that commercial property investments have the potential to be profitable. The three requirements to success in commercial real estate are knowledge, skill and some luck. Some will still not succeed, but using the tips in this article will give you a much better chance of being successful.

Hi everyone, it's so nice to "see" you here. I miss you all so much. It's very exciting when I have something to post. There's a rush of excitement for me.
I feel so lucky today! Why? Because we have a guest blogger. When Lani Muelrath found out that I was struggling with keeping up Healthy Girl's Kitchen posting along with my other responsibilities she quickly offered to do a guest post for us. She asked me the type of content that I was looking for, and of course, I asked one thing, "how did you overcome compulsive overeating?"
If you don't know Lani Muelrath from the Plant-based internet world, let me fill you in on her background. Lani is also known as The Plant-Based Fitness Expert (www.lanimuelrath.com), and she specializes in helping people who struggle with weight and energy transform their bodies -and their lives - without going hungry or practicing grueling, excessive exercise. Multiple resources for you for healthy fitness, weight loss, and plant-based nutrition at lanimuelrath.com.
But back to my question, how did Lani overcome compulsive overeating?
The answers I got did not come as a total surprise (remember, I said total--there is one thing that really has me reeling), but they are a welcome reminder of all that is important to remember on this journey. And boy, do I always need reminding!
So here's how Lani answered my call:
For years I labored under the delusion (I"ll explain) that I was an 'emotional overeater'. I even fessed up to the statement: "I'm a compulsive overeater", hoping for a breakthrough.?
To boil it down to the bones, the answer was found wrapped in three gifts. These I refer to in my practice as the 3 Pillars. The are a critical trio for healthy success. They are food, fitness, and the most often neglected third door, frame of mind.
In the event that you are up against the wall of compulsive overeating, maybe these lessons from my experience will give you insights and possibly the breakthrough that you are looking for. Even if you, like me, are happy, well-adjusted, have a good job, happy relationships - yet can't seem to get it together in this arena. "What's wrong with me?" you ask.
It's not a character flaw. And guilt just makes it worse (I'll explain that, too).
6 Steps to Ending Compulsive Overeating
Here are six pivotal points that turned my life around when it comes to food, eating, and my body.
1) Eat enough - in time. Don't dismiss this one quickly, even if you think you ARE eating enough and believe the problem is that you are eating too much. If you have a weight problem, it seems self-evident, doesn't it? That's how it seemed to me. Once I even put an overweight picture of myself on the refrigerator as visual proof to myself that "see, there's plenty of fuel on your body!" to help me through a fast to - you guessed it, lose weight. The idea was to discourage me from eating. Perhaps you've done something similar.
This set me on a mission to continually cut back, delay eating, or otherwise under eat. This is the worst thing I could have done to lose weight. Hunger presents a primary stress to your body. It threatens your very survival instinct, for nothing is as basic to our survival as getting the fuel needed to think, move, and be.
Let's say another stressor enters your day - you think? The toast burns, the traffic makes you late for work, you have a verbal scrimmage with your SO, the car runs low on gas and where is that gas station anyway?
Which of these stressors is 1) the easiest to relieve, and 2) the one your body will prioritize as needing relief? You guessed it. Satisfying the hunger. And instead of seeing the wisdom of our bodies, we blame ourselves for being weak, compulsive, 'emotional' overeaters.
Action item: Eat to satisfaction early in the day and watch the night munchies evaporate.
2) Eat a whole foods, low fat plant-based diet. This has to do with hunger satisfaction and satiety. Your body is designed to respond with appropriate fullness signals when presented with food it was designed to thrive on, and that means full of fiber and low on fat and as close as possible to how it was delivered in nature. Some people need to be more prudent about this than others - you need to discover your own niche for getting to your goals.
Action item: Edge out lower quality food with high fiber, low fat plant foods: vegetables, starchy vegetables, whole grains, beans, fruit.
3) Move your body. This means also not sitting too much. Not only because it burns calories, which it does, or because exercise shapes muscle, which it does. Activity also restores equilibrium and willpower, giving you more resources for sticking to your plant. See 5 minute willpower workout #1: Exercise, the closest thing to a willpower magic bullet.
Action item: Find small chunks of time throughout the day to move your body. Even if you are getting in your workouts, be mindful of the power even 2 - 5 minutes of moving your muscles to restore well-being and inner strength.
4) Meditate. Breathe and be. Cultivate some kind of practice or quiet time that has the simple objective of restoring mental and emotional equilibrium. This is huge with mindset mastery, and the one most often neglected leg of the 3 Pillars.
Action item: See 5 minute anti-anxiety paint and willpower workout: How to meditate in 5 simple steps.
5) Abstain from negative self-talk. Look back to #1 above, where I gave the example of a fat photo on the fridge. Somehow this was supposed to shame me into avoiding food - and it did, until I couldn't take it any more and it backfired in a binge. But what kind of a message is this to send yourself anyway? You cannot hate yourself to a better figure. And if you've been using the tight belt trick or the fat photo strategy yourself, something is going to need to shift out of the negative for you to be successful.
Action item: This one has many layers, but for starters, begin by making note of every time negative self-talk hijacks your inner world. Every time. It starts with awareness. From there, create positive alternatives to the negative messages.
6) Give up the guilt. Indulgence in feeling bad about 'breaking' your healthy eating plans compounds stress, driving us straight into the stress-relieving properties of - you guessed it - breaking your healthy eating plans with pleasure-promising foods. Ironic!
Action item: Instead, allow wiggle room for less-than-perfect.
I believe in the 3 Pillars so firmly, they are the heart of my book. Fit Quickies: 5 Minute Targeted Body Shaping Workouts sounds like a fitness book - and it is, but it is truly a?Trojan?horse of healthy success. For inside that horse is solid attention to practices of eating, activity, and mastery of mindset for success.
Once I got the 3 Pillars in place, things changed radically for me when it comes to food, eating, and my body. So much so that I haven't had a binge since 1996. And I lost 50 lbs for good. Have I sometimes had too much to eat? Maybe more mousse pie than I really needed? Certainly - that is normal. In contrast, random acts of overeating beyond fullness, repeatedly, is disturbed eating.
The good news is there is a way out. I've done it and have seen it done over and over again. Once you see the interconnectedness of eating, moving, and thinking, you can take action for change.
Was anything on Lani's list a surprise to you? What was it?
Personally, what kind of has me thinking was #1--Eat Enough--in time. I have spent so many years trying to eat less and feeling like such a pig in the process. Like right now, as I type this, I am feeling really hungry. There is a big empty pit feeling in my stomach. What would happen if I filled it, like, now? It's not time for a meal. Would filling that pit now help me to not overeat at night?
I don't know, but I'm certainly going to try it.
Thanks Lani!
